After a few weeks of long work days and late soccer nights, my hubby and I booked lodging at Kenwood Inn - one of the oldest bed and breakfast inns in Florida - to reconnect on a much-needed St. Augustine vacation.

St. Augustine boasts close to 30 B&Bs. We chose Kenwood for its quiet location and extra amenities (we were looking forward to kid-free time in their pool). From the inviting rocking chairs on the front porch to our private deck and spacious bedroom and bath, we knew we'd picked the perfect place to stay!

After visiting with the innkeeper a few minutes, I unpacked while hubby stretched out on the elegant, four-poster bed. We debated between swimming, napping or walking the three blocks to the Plaza before deciding to check out Kenwood Inn's bikes - another extra at this accommodation. We unwound while pedaling around town and pulled back through the gate just in time for a glass of wine in the spacious living room. Wow! We felt showered with one relaxing moment after another! Several St. Augustine Bed & Breakfasts offer afternoon wine, with a few even including hors d'oeuvres!

The thing about a B&B getaway is the no-worries relaxation continues the whole time you're there. We walked along the bay after dinner - just a block from our front door. The next morning, we enjoyed coffee on our private porch before breakfast and then enjoyed a gourmet breakfast before we checked out of our oasis and headed back to family time with the kids. No clean-up, no scrambling from checkout to car to breakfast ... no extra decisions. That's the beauty of slipping away to a bed and breakfast. What are you waiting for? Escape to St. Augustine.
