The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall presents soulful singer-songwriter Citizen Cope in concert on Sunday, April 16, 2017, at 8:00 p.m.
Known for his blend of folk-R&B with reggae beats and hip-hop flourishes, Citizen Cope creates and performs soulful music that has deep roots in American culture. He was born Clarence Greenwood in the 1970s, and has lived all over the country -- from Greenville, Mississippi, to Memphis, Tennesse, Austin, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn, New York.
His self-titled debut album appeared in 2002, and the artist has been experimenting and evolving ever since. It's hard to pinpoint just one theme or sound that make up his style. Rolling Stone Magazine has said that he "melds hip-hop with folk, soul, and blues ... and 'feels' this combination deeply." The Washington Post called him the city's "most soulful export since Marvin Gaye."
