EMMA Concert Association presents another in their series of free events, "Words and Music at the Waterworks," on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Mezzo Soprano, Janet Rabe-Meyer, and the pianist who joins her present a fun and musical hour that includes classic opera arias, new compositions, and a bit of fun banter. They have titled their program, "Witches, Bitches, and Bad Boys." The mezzo soprano voice falls between a soprano and contralto, so their roles (and therefore their presumed persona) are not often that of an ingénue. Think of Époinnie in Les Misérables, Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, and Roxie Hart in Chicago.
Rabe-Meyer is a professional opera singer and actress who has been an adjunct vocal instructor at Daytona State College. She has sung with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, First Coast Opera, and Delaware Valley Opera.
Each program of EMMA's Words and Music at the Waterworks lets you listen to a unique performance as the musicians share their music and stories, creating a blended performance of music, theater, and spoken word.
EMMA Concert Association's commitment to education and promoting the arts has led them to create the Words and Music Series, a mixture of music, spoken word performances, and theatre. Throughout the season, EMMA presents diverse artists in free performances at the Waterworks.
