Curator's Tour: Felix de Crano
(904) 824-2874Lightner Museum Curator Barry Myers conducts special curator tours of the Lightner Museum on the first Wednesday of the month. These tours offer guests a close-up view of some of the Lightner's eclectic relics.
This month's tour will highlight the Lightner Museum's major exhibition of 19th-century artist Felix F. de Crano's oil and watercolor paintings. Over thirty works by the artist, including local scenes, landscapes, and portraits, are on display until March 1, 2015.
"Long forgotten by most of the art world, Felix Frederick de Crano was arguably the most sophisticated and versatile artist in Henry Morrison Flagler's Ponce de Leon colony of painters in Saint Augustine," notes art historian Deborah Pollack in her book, FELIX F. de CRANO, Forgotten Artist of the Flagler Art Colony.
The interactive Curator's Tour gives museum visitors the opportunity to meet Mr. Myers and to learn more about the history of the building while exploring the museum's varied collections.
While the Curator's Tour is included in museum admission, donations are appreciated and will be accepted after the tour.
Admission: $10 for adults ages 19 and over; $6 for active military (with ID); $5 for college students (with ID); $5 for children ages 12-19; free for children 12 and under. St. Johns County residents are also admitted free.
