Dean Johanesen: Semi Tennessee 4 on the Floor Tour
(904) 209-5704On Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Prohibition Kitchen welcomes Dean Johanensen for one show on his Semi Tennessee - Four on the Floor Tour.
A master of "Circus Swing" and American Roots Music, this guitarist and songwriter was inspired by Django Reinhardt (Hot Club Jazz), and Bob Wills and Lyle Lovett (Western Swing). His foundation in American Roots Music helps to create melodic songs with a distinctive beat, and lyrics that can bring you home or set you off on an adventure.
From Long Island, New York, Dean now lives in Florida and records in Nashville. He released his most recent album, Cautionary Tales, in 2023. "Semi Tennessee" is a single from that album. Dean has performed at Flagstaff Folk Festival, Dripping Springs Songwriter Festival, the Will McClean Festival, and Florida Folk Fest.
Editors and reviewers have favorably compared Dean to Pokey LaFarge, Father John Misty, and Louis Jordan. Depending on the song, his acoustic guitar style can be compared to the music of the Spanish rumba, the beat found in the American speakeasy in the 20s, and hot club jazz, too. Like many great musical artists, Dean doesn't bend genres as much as pay homage to them in his unique way.
At his concerts, Dean usually includes some of his 30s and 40s era tunes and new music that sounds like its from the swing era, giving his audience the opportunity to have fun on the dance floor. As Dean said, "It's been a minute since I have toured through St. Augustine. I hope to see you out here for this run." Dean can expect his local fans to find him, and newcomers to discover him.
