Derek Coghlan, a local educator, Shakespearean actor, and storyteller, presents the one-man show, Nothing for You Here, at the St. Augustine Waterworks on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. Described as an "immigrant tale and American story," his performance focuses on his first few years in America.
Derek is originally from Mullingar in County Westmeath in Ireland, which is evident in his Irish brogue and love of soccer, breweries, and shenanigans. Derek not only grew up in Ireland, he attended college at the Pontifical University in Maynooth, a small Catholic college in a small town near Dublin. It's safe to say that his first few years in America were challenging and have proved to be great material for his one-man shows.
Derek has been a teacher in the St. Johns County school district for more than 30 years. In addition, he is the founding member of a Shakespeare company and has acted on stage at Limelight Theatre. He is the public host and one of the coaches and organizers for Pecka Kucha St. Augustine. On stage, he has been described as "an enthusiastic, energized raconteur."
His sense of humor is infectious, and his tales frequently poke fun at his escapades and misadventures, letting the audience share in the laughter and learning.
