Swamp Radio and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre will host "Early Thanks" on Saturday, November 19, 2016, starting at 6:00 p.m. This "untraditional Southern-style Thanksgiving dinner" and live radio show was immensely popular last year, and returns for its second year in the outdoor Pavilion at the Amphitheatre.
The Southern-style three-course Thanksgiving meal will be provided by chefs Stephen Dimare of the Hyppo Cafe and Terri Gamble of the Blue Hen Cafe. The main menu will include chicken and dumpling arancini as an appetizer and main courses of slow-smoked turkey with roasted garlic and sage, hand-crafted sausage with venison, and a vegan-friendly version of Shepherd's Pie with mashed potatoes, and so much more, followed by pumpkin cheesecake squares, cranberry cupcakes, and vegan dark chocolate coconut pie. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m.
After dinner, Swamp Radio will present an 80-minute live show celebrating St. Augustine's fall flair. There will be live music, including Duffy Bishop and the Unnamed Trio, singer Katherine Archer, and percussionist Charlotte Mabrey. Storytelling is a big part of the event, and this year will feature Derek Coghlan on the origins of Turkey Day, Kate Norton with a profile of Louisa Fatio, and Tiffany Melanson talking with St. Augustine Distillery owner Phil McDaniel.
Additionally, Swamp Radio's sketch comedy crew The Retreads will explore topics ranging from the Turkey Giblet War of 2015 to the proper way to prepare for a dysfunctional family gathering and more. Local writers Laure Lee Smith, Ray Sharpe, and Mark Woods will deliver "blessings" throughout the evening.
Swamp Radio celebrates the art and culture of northeast Florida, and takes its show on the road occasionally throughout the year. Host and producer Iain Mairs brings together a talented group of storytellers, musicians, and actors for this early Thanksgiving show.
