First Coast Opera will treat audiences to two performances of Verdi' La Traviata at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2021, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Lewis Auditorium in historic downtown St. Augustine.

La Traviata (The Fallen Woman), is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. Based on La Dame aux Camelias (1852), a play adapted from the 1848 novel by Alexandre Dumas, the opera follows the romance of Violetta, a famed courtesan, and Alfredo, a young bourgeois from a provincial family.

Set in and around Paris in the early 19th century, La Traviata has become a popular opera and is the most frequently performed.

Champagne is included in the ticket price for the Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, (New Year's Eve) performance.

First Coast opera is a nonprofit organization that aims to offer high-quality performances to the local area. Founded in 2000, First Coast Opera brings operas, operettas, cabarets and concerts to the region. The organization also works to build patron support and sponsorship, and to foster a new generation of opera patrons through educational programs and performance opportunities.
