Florida Chamber Music Concert: A Day for Delius

Presented by the Florida Chamber Music Project in partnership with the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council presents, "A Day for Delius," a celebration of the 130th anniversary of the time composer Frederick Delius spent in St. Johns County. The event takes place on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, with the free events commemorating the anniversary beginning at noon.

The Florida Chamber Music Concert series concert, featuring Delius' String Quartet in E Minor and Robert Schumann's String Quartet No. 3 in A Major, will take place at 3 p.m.

Frederick Delius, who was born in England, spent 1884-86 in an area west of St. Augustine now know as Picolata, managing his parents' orange grove. The "Day for Delius" festivities that precede the concert are free and open for the public, beginning at 1 p.m. These feature a small group of African-American singers performing spirituals and songs of the time that greatly influenced Delius' music, the showing of a movie about Delius' later years, "The Song of Summer," and an exhibit of photos and artifacts from the Jacksonville Public Library's Delius Collection.

At 3 p.m., The Florida Chamber Music Project will perform Delius' String Quartet in E minor, followed by Robert Schumann's String Quarter No. 3 in A Major. After the performance, there will be a post-concert reception to meet the musicians and view the Delius exhibit.

The Florida Chamber Music Project is dedicated to presenting live classical music in intimate surroundings and to increasing awareness of classical chamber music throughout the state of Florida, and particularly in North Florida.
