St. Augustine loves to celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks that launch from a barge in the river just off the Castillo. Every year thousands of people head downtown to watch the show from the waterfront.

During the Day

First, all attractions are open on the Fourth of July. If you plan on watching the fireworks from downtown and want to enjoy the shopping, dining, live music, and attractions, head there early, park in the garage or a lot, and have fun.

The Castillo de San Marcos offers special demonstrations called "America Through Time," in addition to the regular daily events. Visitors can experience the Castillo during the 1820s, the Second Seminole War, the Civil War, the Plains and Apache incarceration periods, the Spanish-American War, and World War II at the Castillo. Regular entrance fees apply—$15.00 for all 16 and older, free for all 15 and younger.

The Fireworks

Most people watch from the Bridge of Lions, Vilano, and various locations on Anastasia Island. Others enjoy the show from one of St. Augustine's water tours, a private or rented boat, or one of the attractions that offer a grand view.

Here is a partial list of tours and attractions that offer a special way to view St. Augustine's spectacular show and celebrate the 4th of July weekend.

A note about traffic: Parking downtown will be a challenge, and people in the know will arrive early to spend the day enjoying the historic downtown. If your tour or charter begins downtown, plan to arrive extraordinarily early, or plan to take other transportation. If your tour or charter occurs on Anastasia Island, you may want to take the 312 Bridge to avoid downtown traffic. Shuttles from various lots out of town start at 6:00 p.m. As the wise people say, "Plan accordingly."
