The Jewish Historical Society hosts a screening of Xueta Island (2021) on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Waterworks.

This award-winning documentary follows Dani Rotstein who explores the life and legacy of the Xuetas on the Spanish island of Majorca. Going back to the 1400s, a group of Jews were forced to convert to Catholicism and have continued to be discriminated against to this day. Filmmakers present a case study of the harsh truth of silenced Judaism and the secret practices that aren't acknowledged.

A discussion with Andrea White, the City Archaeologist of St. Augustine, will occur after the showing.
