The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall presents Jorma Kaukonen on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 8:00 p.m.
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jorma Kaukonen started his musical career in the 1960s. He was influenced by the sounds of rock-and-roll, blues, and bluegrass. In the late 60s, Kaukonen joined Jefferson Airplane, a pioneer band of the counterculture psychedelic sound. Kaukonen's high school friend Jack Casady also joined the musical act as the electric bassist. Both "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit," two songs from Jefferson Airplane's 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow, were included in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time." Casady and Kaukonen would play mini-sets during Jefferson Airplane concerts. The duo eventually left Jefferson Airplane and formed Hot Tuna. They released more than two-dozen records, and still actively tour.
In addition to Hot Tuna, Kaukonen also released solo albums starting in 1974. He also owns and operates Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch Guitar Camp in southeastern Ohio. Opening in 1998, guitarists of all skill levels gather over weekends for master instruction led by Kaukonen and others. In February 2015, Kaukonen released his latest solo album Ain't In No Hurry.
