Ladybug Race and Workshops

St. Augustine Sailing and their program "Women on the Water" present the Ladybug Event, on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, 2025, with workshops, a sailboat race, and an awards dinner.

Seminars and Workshops

Saturday begins at 10:00 a.m. with seminars and workshops. Tracy Edwards, the skipper of the all-female crew in the 1989 Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, is the 2025 keynote speaker. Other speakers will discuss cooking aboard, medical preparedness at sea, and other topics important to those setting out on a sailboat for the day or for a lengthy cruise.

Space is limited, and reservations are recommended for these free workshops.

  • 10:00 a.m.—On the dock, Line Handling and Eye Splicing Dynema with Dale Edgar
  • 10:00 a.m.—On the dock G22, Sailor's Pen: Navigating Writing and Publishing Aboard with Melanie Sunshine Neale
  • 11:00 a.m.—In the classroom, Inboard Diesel Engines with Justin McNab
  • 11:00 a.m.—On the dock, Marine Air Conditioning Maintenance with Lance Burkin
  • 12:00 p.m.—On the dock G26, Cooking Demonstration with Rose Ann Points
  • 1:00 p.m.—Medical Preparedness at Sea, with Dale Edgar 

Sailing Workshop

A two-hour introduction to sailing costs $199.00 per person. Classes start at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Reserve your spot.

CPR Certification

At 1:00 p.m. in the classroom, the American Heart Association offers a CPR class for $100.00 per person. Space is limited and reservations are required. 

Ladybug Race

The Ladybug Race is on Sunday and is open to both performance and cruising sailboats. Register your boat here. If you don't have a boat, you may crew with St. Augustine Sailing's Crew Program or Women on the Water. This inshore race takes place on the Tolmato River. If you don't want to race, you can purchase a ticket to ride aboard the committee boat or on a spectator boat from St. Augustine Sailing's fleet. Tickets for viewing the race on the water start at $49.00 per person. Go here to get tickets to view the race from the water.

The Ladybug Event is committed to promoting women in sailing and racing excellence, and all events are open to all who want to participate. Those not crewing on a sailboat may watch the race from a VIP spectator area.

Awards Dinner

The awards dinner and seafood boil on Sunday start at 6:00 p.m. More information and tickets can be found here.

Admission: Many workshops are free. The American Heart Association CPR Certification course has a small fee. Prices for watching the race from a boat start at $49.00. The seafood boil by Outer Banks Boil Company of St. Augustine costs $89.00 per person.

Proceeds raised by the Ladybug Regatta will support expanding the Women on the Water Program. This program works to make sailing available to all women by providing educational workshops and water skills training.
