Popular folk and Americana group Old Crow Medicine Show comes to the St. Augustine Amphitheater. Old Crow Medicine Show is the Grammy-nominated mainstay from the Grand Ole Opry. Their music is a folk style that reaches audiences around the globe.
The group got their start busking on the streets of New York and into Canada. Old Crow Medicine Show eventually found themselves in Boone, North Carolina where they caught the attention of folk icon Doc Watson while playing in front of a pharmacy. He immediately invited the band to play at his MerleFest, helping to launch their career. Shortly thereafter the band relocated to Nashville for a residency at the Grand Ole Opry, where they entertained the crowd between shows.
Since then the Grammy nominated group has sold over 800,000 albums worldwide and participated in several popular and highly rated music festivals including Bonnaroo, Coachella, and the Newport Folk Festival. In 2011 the group found themselves embarking on the historic Railroad Revival Tour with Mumford and Sons, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This tour had the bands riding a vintage train from California to New Orleans, playing shows along the way while Emmet Malloy captured the whole thing in his documentary, Big Easy Express.
The group has released four studio albums since their beginning, and their most recent one, Carry Me Back, offers even more classic Americana music that speaks to roots of people. The band was nominated for a 2007 Americana Music Award in the category of "Best Duo Or Group". The group also received the 2013 Trailblazer Award at the 12th Annual Americana Honors & Awards Show, which took place September 18, 2013 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
"Wagon Wheel" the song originally sketched by Bob Dylan that Old Crow Medicine Show founder, Ketch Secor, heard and later completed, has been nominated for many awards and covered by several artists. Their version of the song was certified platinum by RIAA in 2013. The song was nominated as Song of the Year at the 47th Annual Country Music Association Awards in 2013. "Wagon Wheel" has been covered by Darius Rucker, Mumford and Sons and others.
