St. Augustine Concert Band Season Finale

Romanza Presents ...

On Friday, May 16, 2025, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., the Romanza Festivale presents The St. Augustine Concert Band in their season finale concert at the Center of the Arts at R.J. Murray Middle School.

The theme is "Americana" and the music will span across the country, from the north to the south, and from the east to the west, celebrating the United States and her music. Works performed include Forgotten Tales of the West, by Adrian B. Sims, who used Native American themes and western harmonies to provide a musical interpretation of the conflict between the Native Americans and the Europeans moving west. The concert offers a tribute to Leonard Bernstein, and features music by Samuel Hazo, Carl Strommen, and Richard Saucedo. 

First established in the early 1900s with a small military-style band of some 16 members, the acclaimed St. Augustine Concert Band now features about 70 performers, from amateurs to students and semi-professionals, all from the surrounding area. In 2015, Maestro Geoffrey S. Magnani retired in St. Augustine and worked to again establish the St. Augustine Concert Band as the Ancient City's premier band. This is his farewell concert as Maestro Magnani will retire again after this last concert.
