The St. Augustine Film Society and Community Conversations — an organization that supports local civic gatherings and educates communities about false historical information communicated through various outlets — hosts a free public viewing and panel discussion of the biographical drama, Origin (2023) on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at the Southeast Branch Library.
Written and directed by Ava DuVernay, this film is based on Isabel Wilkerson's book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. The story follows Wilkerson's life and expresses her trials and tribulations, while also exploring the ideas of the human divide in American society. Watch as she goes through a journey of self-discovery and the difficult themes of class, racism, and human connections surrounding a historical and universal standpoint.
After the show, Community Conversations will lead a panel discussion about the topics introduced in the film. Refreshments will also be served.
Admission: This event is free, though donations to the St. Augustine Film Society would be appreciated.
When: Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.
Where: The Southeast Branch Library is at 6670 U.S. 1 in St. Augustine, Florida 32086.
