On May 28, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the St. Augustine Film Society hosts a film screening of the internationally produced black comedy, Triangle of Sadness (2022). This event will take place at the Temple Bet Yam at 2055 Wildwood Drive.

Directed by Ruben Östlund, this wickedly funny film won a Palme d’Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Triangle of Sadness explores what happened when social hierarchy is turned upside down. What gives us power? Do the people in power deserve to have it? These questions are explored through main characters Carl and Yaya — a model and an influencer. The couple gets invited to attend a trip on a luxury cruise ship alongside a group of other "bourgeoisie scabs" and the people that serve them. Not long after boarding the yacht, a brutal storm hits the ship their trip takes an unexpected turn. The film is primarily about our modern class systems and how individuals within that system behave when it is ripped out from under them. Think Lord of the Flies for adults. The St. Augustine Film Society always hosts a discussion after their screenings — and this one is sure to be lively.

Admission: $8 for non-members of the St. Augustine Film Society. Members get in free.
