St. Augustine Orchestra performs their annual Sound of the Season holiday concert. This two-night performance (December 13th and 15th) will consist of holiday classics such as selections from the Messiah and The Nutcracker./p>
William McNeiland of the Saint Augustine Orchestra will direct this concert and will be joined by Dr. Rachel Root of the The Chancel Choir from Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra. Visitors can crown this holiday seasons festivities with the beautiful gift of classical music.
The Program:
Selections from Messiah, which was originally composed in 1741 as an oratorio by George Frideric Handel. This traditional score is a musical composition that depicts scenes from the Bible including prophecies by Isiah, annunciation of the shepherds (the only scene taken from the Gospels), and more.
Selections from The Nutcracker will also be featured as well as two competing versions of Sleigh Ride one written by Wolfgang Mozart, one of the most revered composers, and the other written by Leroy Anderson, one of the great American masters of orchestral music.
Traditional carols will be played featuring the orchestras brass section. A variety of other Christmas spirituals, cowboy carols, and holiday music from operettas, musicals and movies will also be performed. The Southeast premiere of Concertino for Bass Drumby Evan Tonsing will be presented at this concert. Mr. Tonsings work includes original scores for several movies, among other original compositions.
