100th Anniversary of Sister City Relationship

In 1924, delegates from St. Augustine joined others from Florida to travel to Avilés, Spain to attend a burial ceremony for Pedro Menendez de Avilés, at the invitation of the Avilés City Council. The St. Augustine delegates traveled with an outer coffin as a gift to the city of Menendez's birth. This was the first of many exchanges between the two cities.
