Please Note: This event is from 2022

Shifting through the dark layers that encapsulate Truman Capote as they remain hidden behind his charming and uproarious persona, Tru comes to the stage at Limelight Theatre's Koger-Gamache Black Box Theatre, located at 11 Old Mission Road in St. Augustine. Directed by Limelight co-founder, Jean Rahner and starring actor Jan Peter Buksar, performances begin on Thursday, November 17 through Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

Originally written by Jay Presson Allen (1922 - 2006), a screenwriter who successfully made a breakthrough in Hollywood during a time when her profession was strictly male-dominated, Allen took on the difficult task of creating the play titled, Tru, which revolves around the inner-workings of Truman Capote.

Tru shines light on Capote in his last chapter of life where his charming demeanor and ability to befriend and gain the trust of people from different walks of life result in his ultimate downfall. As Capote embraces all aspects of the human condition, his alcoholism and addictions blossom underneath as it is the deception underlying his embraces that end up turning on him in his final hour. Utilizing all of the secrets he captured from others along the way, he gains the ability to write their stories and have them published for the world to read, resulting in friends becoming foes. It is when Capote becomes isolated and alone that he and his addiction come face to face and his addiction ultimately wins.
