Old Bridge

Looking east towards Anastasia Island, the old toll bridge connecting St. Augustine to the island and the beaches was built in 1895. In 1904, major renovations included the addition of an electric trolley line that carried passengers to the beach at the lighthouse - a popular attraction even then. Due largely to the great increase in automobile traffic, it was replaced by the beautiful Bridge of Lions in 1927. The current renovation of the Bridge of Lions is scheduled for completion in 2010.
