Oldest School House
Oldest School House
The Oldest Wooden School House is an original wooden frame building constructed in about 1788 as the home of a Menorcan resident named Juan Genopoly. It remained in the Genopoly family until 1904. Over the years, it served as a residence, novelty shop, and a tea room. In the 1920's, its owner dubbed it the "Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse and in the early 1930's it was acquired by St. Augustine Mayor Walter Fraser who successfully organized the city's restoration program that began in 1935.
