Ben Kiser
A Virginia fiddle and banjo player destined to keep the mountain sound alive.
Young Ben Kiser preserves traditional Appalachian tunes in his own archaic style. By playing the fiddle, banjo, and mountain dulcimer (fretted string instrument), he has brought forth the authentic sound of Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina's rural communities.
Kiser exemplifies a rustic and nostalgic voice that pays homage to artists who have paved the way for folk, mountain music: Welzie Chrisawn, Isham Monday, Marcus Martin, John Salyer, and Hiram Stamper. From singing soft ballads like "Phoebe In Her Petticoat" and "Darlin' Don't You Know That's Wrong," to fiddle tunes from different regions, Kiser is keeping this genre alive and thriving. He also collaborates with local and regional musicians to learn more about the folk craft and its complex background.
He has made a name for himself by being open to any performance opportunities. From country stores and square dancing parties, to festivals/jamborees and fiddle competitions, Kiser wants to share his love for, and the significance of, the genre that so many have forgotten. With a bright spirit and a talent with the fiddle and banjo, audiences are left wanting more.
