Better Half
This husband and wife duo both perform, sing, and write songs.
For a duo who call Steamboat Springs home, Chris Koebnick and Deanna Webb Koebnick certainly have strong roots in St. Augustine's music scene. There's a photo of Deanna on her Facebook page titled "Tradewinds Circa 1996" showing them at Tradewinds with Randy Kelly on mandolin and an unnamed percussionist on drums.
The duo claim that when they perform each takes a turn being the "better half" and that is exactly what listening to them play feels like — a perfect blend of instruments, voices, and songs, led by Chris and Deanna in turns. Deanna sings and plays acoustic guitar and Chris sings and alternates between bass, guitar, and mandolin. They play some covers, both well-known and obscure, and are both prolific songwriters. In 2002 Better Half released an album of their original songs, Spring Light and Shadow.
Instead of following the sun, Better Half spends winters in Steamboat Springs, performing in various locations at the popular resort. In the spring and for part of the summer, Chris and Deanna head to her hometown of St. Augustine, where they meet up with old friends and fellow musicians and delight local audiences — just as they did in 1996 at Tradewinds.
