Big Sam's Funky Nation

Big Sam's Funky Nation just wants everyone to have a good time. They make that happen with their funky music.

Big Sam's Funky Nation, a New Orleans band of hip-hop, jazz, and funk troubadours bring their strong beats, impeccable musicianship, and joy of being alive wherever they perform.

Says front man Sam Williams, "That's what funk is all about. That's what New Orleans is all about. That's what Big Sam's Funky Nation is all about. If you come to a show, you're going to party. That's what we're here for."

Sam, who performs lead vocals and plays the trombone, is joined by Drew "Da Phessah" Baham on trumpet and vocals, Jerry "JBlakk" Henderson on electric bass, Alfred "Sgt Gutta" Jordan on drums, Seizo Shibayama on guitar, and Kendrick Marshall on the keyboard.

This band has been called one of the best secrets of New Orleans, and they bring the exuberance that the city is known for to every performance. Their music is an unusual blend of jazz, hip-hop, funk, and rock and it is impossible to listen without moving along to the funky beat.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is performing at the Prohibition Kitchen as part of the 2021 Sing Out Loud Festival.
