The Currys
Two brothers and their cousin, The Currys are song writers, singers, and musicians who write about life, love, and family.
Tommy Curry, Jimmy Curry, and Galen Curry formed a harmony-based trio of singers, songwriters, and musicians in 2013. Since 2013, they've released three highly-acclaimed albums and moved on from playing at oyster bars to becoming featured acts at larger venues and numerous festivals.
While they have consistently been known for their three-part harmonies and excellent instrumentation, their newest album, This Side of the Glass, moves just a bit away from their down home themes and folk/American sound to include a hint of pop and an homage to iconic music, such as Paul Simon's "Graceland."
The Currys, brothers Tommy and Jimmy, and cousin Galen, can each seamlessly shift from providing harmonies to singing lead vocals. Galen plays bass, Jimmy and Tommy both play guitar — Jimmy on an electric acoustic — and a mandolin may show up in Tommy's hands during a show. Their songs are enjoyable, yet not simple; new, and yet familiar, and their delight in writing and performing their music is easily understood by the audience.
Like many performers of their generation, they have an active online presence, in their case including a podcast, This Side of the Mic," which evidently includes a bit of friendly competition such as their version of "Name That Tune." Those who follow The Currys on You Tube may occassionally see a video-of-shame made by the "loser."
It's clear that The Currys love music, including listening to it, learning from it, and creating new songs and sounds.
