Joey Anderson
First, there is rock; an influence that cannot be ignored.
Joey Anderson is back. Returning to his birth city, he is a recent addition to the professional songwriting and performing world. He carries a lifetime of zeal and determination for the art. At the end of his 22-year military career, Anderson began to fully engage in his performing and songwriting, and garnered 19 award nominations, winning six premium awards in the Northwest in the last five years.
First, there was rock; an influence that cannot be ignored, along with the country sounds of the South, and some folk woven in. Writing songs reflective of his experiences, in a sometimes raw and gritty format, he merges his wry wit and hopeful energy into even his most introspective songs. Blending in a frisky sound and a thumping kickdrum, along with a good hook, Anderson's message is accessible to the listener.
Born in St. Augustine, he has made the rounds of our country, and gathered stories and experiences that are reflected in his tunes. Anderson's fervor for the art of songwriting folds into his personal stories, with an often funky perspective, presenting powerful messages.
In Anderson's fairly short, yet immersive songwriting life, his sound is evolving and strengthening, with vast peer and audience appeal. He self-produced his first albums, which reflected his love for his town of Spokane, Washington (the Lilac City). He wrote “The Lilac Night,” “The Lilac Smile,” and, “The Lilac Stories.” A prominent song that preceded this series, is “Division & Third,” in which he acknowledges that the street solicitor in his lyrics "easily could have been me and it still can be."
