Morby's songs are deeply personal, even those that can be considered protest songs offer a personal reaction to world events. He has said that his music is influenced by Lou Reed, Nina Simone, Simon Joyner, and Bob Dylan— with Dylan's influence evident in Morby's lyrics that are evocative of poetry.
The genre is mostly Indie, with folk and rock influences.
