Low Ground

Adept bluegrass ensemble from South Florida.

Bound by their love for musical craft, Low Ground is a five-person bluegrass ensemble from South Florida. They’ve become regulars on the folk music circuit, playing festivals all over the state.

Low Ground Line-up

The name “Low Ground” was coined when the band was formed in June of 2020. In contrast to other bluegrass band names (which usually highlight the mountains, ridges, and hollers of the genre’s birthplace), “Low Ground” is a nod to the Sunshine State, where musicians usually play at (or below) sea level.

Low Ground has five members total, but often plays as a duo or trio for more intimate shows. Members include Isaac Taylor (banjo), Paddy King (fiddle), Amanda Accardi (vocals, upright bass), Trevor Klutz (mandolin), and Nico Kiriazis (guitar).

Traditional, Yet Novel

Low Ground's fascination with bluegrass stems from the genre being “easy to comprehend, yet difficult to execute,” says guitarist Nico Kiriazis. Any bluegrass fan worth their salt will recognize the classics in Low Ground’s set list — they’ve mastered “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” and “Shady Grove,” amongst other favorites.

However, you’ll often find them playing adapted versions of songs from artists like Phish and Merle Haggard. These new takes on well-loved tunes prove Low Ground is keen to experiment.
