Jazz and gospel music have been in Melvin Smith's life almost forever. With the constant support from his family, Smith has found his niche and is loving it. Beginning his music career by picking up a clarinet at the age of 12, he moved on to the flute, but it was when he found the saxophone that he found his calling.
As a 13-year-old, Smith played at the Montreux Jazz Festival and has become a music educator to share his love of music and the instrument with youngsters. From Jacksonville, Florida, Smith is a master of the saxophone and has had the opportunity to perform among the elite in the world of secular and sacred music.
