Mustard Plug got its start in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1991, playing ska music before it was a thing. From punk clubs to dive bars to basements, it has brought its energetic live shows to international venues. With a unique blend of upbeat rhythms, melodic pop hooks, and punk edginess, Mustard Plug adds unique and engaging lyrics. The current lineup includes vocals, trumpet, trombone, drums, guitar, tenor saxophone, and bass.

The band has embraced a DIY work ethic, generating their first cassette, Skapocalypse Now! in 1992. Big Daddy Multitude, released in 1993 on Moon Records, further solidified their presence in the ska scene. Their 1997 album, Evildoers Beware, sold more than 150,000 copies, solidifying their position as a significant part of the ska scene.

After a 16-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the band released their first album in nine years, Where Did All My Friends Go, in 2023, which took a darker lyrical direction. Lead vocalist Dave Kirchgessner expresses pride in their continued growth as musicians. Mustard Plug has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, and South America, including two Warped Tour appearances and participation in the Ska Against Racism Tour. As of 2024, the band has released eight studio albums.

Mustard Plug continues to tour actively, playing domestically and internationally, adding to their career tally of more than 2,000 shows.
