The Peyton Brothers on the Pickin' Stage at the 2023 Gamble Rogers Festival

Peyton Brothers

Four brothers, who've played for more than four decades, delight local audiences.

The Peyton Brothers make it sound simple. As teens and twenty-somethings, growing up in Jacksonville, they picked up some instruments in 1972 and decided to form a band. The instruments were the mandolin (Lee), guitar (Dan), bass (Michael), and banjo (John). Their familial musical abilities helped them create strong harmonies, and it was the 70's — so they became a folk and bluegrass band.

For the next few years, the Peyton Brothers performed first locally around their studies, and then as professionals, playing at festivals, colleges, theme parks, and clubs.
They even hosted their own TV show at WTLV in Jacksonville in 1978. In 1981, the Peyton Brothers stepped back from their music job and followed their careers, playing at festivals and special events as time allowed.

In 2013, they hosted their "last" concert and later they introduced their first (and only) CD, titled Finally!

To the joy of every bluegrass fan in Northeast Florida and beyond, the Peyton Brothers have now reached the stage in their lives when they have time to get back to their first career and are performing more and more. And now they are five, with Lee's son, Grant, on guitar.
