Scott Anderson
A sought-after performer and a respected banjo teacher.
A highly regarded banjo player and teacher, audiences know Scott Anderson for playing gospel and bluegrass in several bands. He's praised for giving old tunes a slightly new twist and for writing contemporary songs that feel nostalgic.
Early in his career, Scott played with the gospel band, First Light, and Henderson's Bluegrass Parlor Band. He's long been well-known on the bluegrass and gospel circuits and has performed with Vassar Clements, Clay Hess, and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. His two solo albums, Rivers in 2001 and Tales from the Swamp in 2019, both featured other highly-regarded musicians and pleased the critics. He put together and fronted the Scott Anderson Band, performed on the banjo and as a vocalist in the Jim Hurst Band, and played for years with his daughter in the appropriately named Amanda and Scott Anderson Band.
After the success of Tales from the Swamp, Scott, Lis Williamson, Lon Williamson, Gaberial Valla, and Christian Ward — musicians familiar to North Florida fans — formed the group Medicine Springs.
Scott teaches private lessons and at several music camps and workshops throughout the country. He leads a banjo workshop at the 2025 Gamble Rogers Music Festival.
