Shawn Camp
This singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has written several top hits.
Originally from Arkansas and raised in a musical family, Shawn Camp moved to Nashville in 1987 when he was in his early 20s. Shawn is an outstanding multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, guitar, mandolin) with strong vocal skills, and he quickly found jobs playing in backing bands of several national acts. Since then his career has included songwriting, solo performances, recording producing, and performing as a member of several groups. His music has been considered to be of the country, bluegrass, and Americana genres.
Reprise Records signed him in 1991 and quickly produced two singles. A short time later, he began writing with other artists and had his first number one song in 1998, “Two Piña Coladas,” co-written by Camp and recorded by Garth Brooks. Through the early 2000s, Camp and his co-writers had one hit song after another including “Nobody But Me,” (Blake Shelton) and “River of Love,” (George Strait). More recently, Shawn wrote two songs on Willie Nelson’s 2023 Grammy-winning country album of the year, the title song, "A Beautiful Time," and “We’re Not Happy ’Til You’re Not Happy.”
An accomplished producer, he and Tamara Saviano won "Album of the Year" at the American Music Awards in 2012 for their album, This One’s for Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark. In 2014, he produced Guy Clark’s My Favorite Picture of You and won another Grammy Award. Shawn and Verlon Thomson frequently perform together presenting an evening of Guy Clark's music.
In addition, Shawn is the lead singer of the Earls of Leicester, an all-acoustic sextet formed in 2013 specifically to preserve and promote the music and legacy of Earl Flatts and Lester Scruggs. (Hence “Earls of Leicester,” with Leicester pronounced as "Les-ter.") Other members of the Earls are Jerry Douglass, Jeff White, Daniel Kimbro, Charlie Cushman, and Johnny Warren. That band and its members have won several awards including “Best Bluegrass Album” in 2015, International Bluegrass Music Association’s “Entertainer of the Year” in 2016 and 2017, and Shawn won “Male Vocalist of the Year" in 2017.
Shawn Camp plays fiddle, guitar, and mandolin and often performs with several musicians and groups at festivals and venues throughout the South.
