He has said that one of his influences was the Old Crow Medicine Show and that he had sung many of their songs beginning at age 12. As he and his audience grew, he added a band and began using the name Mofro. JJ Grey and Mofro have released nine albums, performed in venues and festivals worldwide, and become known for their powerful combination of blues, soul, rock, and funk.
