A Classic Theatre: Bakersfield Mist

A Classic Theatre presents Bakersfield Mist on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from October 4 through October 13, 2024, at the St. Augustine Waterworks. The performance times vary by the day of the week: 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.

What would happen if an unemployed bartender, living in a trailer park, bought a yard sale painting that was an original Jackson Pollock — or not? Imagine a world-renowned art expert flying from New York to visit the woman in the trailer and examine the painting. Inspired by true events, playwright Stephen Sachs takes the audience on a poignant, funny, and insightful ride about "what makes art and people truly authentic."

Bakersfield Mist premiered in Los Angeles in 2011 with Jenny O'Hara and Nick Ullett cast as Maud Gutman and Lionel Percy. At the London premiere in 2024, Kathleen Turner and Ian McDermid performed the title roles.

Admission: Tickets are $25.00 for general admission.

When: On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from October 4 - 13. The shows on Friday, October 4 and 11 will start at 7:30 p.m. Curtain is at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 and 12; and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6 and 13. The show usually runs 80 minutes and may be presented without an intermission.

Getting There: While the address is 184 San Marco Avenue, the only driveway on San Marco is Exit Only, so it is not available to access the Waterworks. Access to the Waterworks is through the St. Augustine Main Library parking lot, on the opposite side of the complex. (Use 1960 North Ponce de Leon in your GPS.)
