The Earth Day Guided Marsh Hike at Fort Mose will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The 1.5-mile hike departs from the Fort Mose parking lot at 3 p.m., returning around 4:30 p.m.

This guided hike takes visitors through the maritime hammock at Fort Mose and proceeds out through the salt marsh to the location where the second Fort Mose was found. Hikers will learn about the history of Fort Mose as well as about the marsh and maritime hammock ecosystems.

The marsh is strongly influenced by tides, so participants should dress appropriately, with closed-toe shoes or waterproof boots, long pants and long sleeves. Also, hikers are advised to bring drinking water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a camera.
