First Coast Opera presents Die Fledermaus - The Bat, on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. Performances take place at Lewis Auditorium on Flagler College campus.
Bid adieu to 2022 and salute 2023 with Johann Strauss Jr's Die Fledermaus (The Bat) operetta. Written in 1874 and set in Vienna, the performance will feature a fully-staged production of the opera with orchestra.
This 3-act opera explores the hilarity of challenging 19th century bourgeoisie society. Oozing with frivolous charm, the audience is taken from a case of mistaken identity, to flirtations, and finally a practical joke that collides into disenchantments, and to the clinker for rendered consequences. Complimentary champagne will be served at intermission for both performances.
