The Flagler College Forum on Government and Public Policy presents Clare Fieseler, a journalist and scientist who has a research appointment at the Smithsonian's National Museum of History, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Fieseler will speak on the topic of "Jules Verne and Deep Sea Mining: It's Closer Than You Think." Dr. Fieseler's lecture will be held in the Virginia Room at the Flagler Student Center at 50 Sevilla Street.
As a journalist, Dr. Fieseler covers renewable energy technology and policy. She earned a PhD in ecology from UNC Chapel Hill and a master's in environmental management from Duke University. Her articles have been published in National Geographic, the Washington Post, Post and Courier, and E&E News by Politico. Dr. Fieseler knows that the drive for renewable energy has led to a greater need for critical minerals. She will discuss the efforts by some countries seeking permission to mine in international waters.
Flagler College's Forum on Government and Public Policy brings nationally recognized journalists, commentators, and speakers to St. Augustine to discuss issues at hand in regional, state, and federal government.
