Award-winning journalist Evan Thomas will host a Flagler College Forum on Government and Public Policy on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Lewis Auditorium. The topic of the forum will be "Eisenhower: A Study in Presidential Leadership."

Evan Thomas' most recent book, Ike's Bluff, covers the subject of what Thomas calls "the enormous bluff" that President Eisenhower put into place in order to convince the country's enemies that the U.S. was in fact willing to use nuclear weapons. According to Thomas, this bluff is what kept the U.S. out of war during the eight years of Eisenhower's presidency.

There will be a book sale and signing of Thomas' new book immediately following the forum.

Thomas's career at Newsweek magazine has earned him numerous journalism awards, including a National Magazine Award in 1998 for Newsweek's coverage of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. He served as Newsweek's Washington bureau chief and assistant managing editor until 2006, when he was appointed  editor-at-large.

Flagler College's Forum on Government and Public Policy brings nationally recognized journalists, commentators, and speakers to St. Augustine to discuss issues at hand in regional, state, and federal government. This forum has promoted intellectual talk about government and public policy for over 30 years at Flagler College.
