Limelight Theatre: The Young Man from Atlanta

The Limelight Theatre presents Horton Foote's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, The Young Man from Atlanta, from January 16 through February 9, 2020. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. There is a special Terrific Tuesday showing at 7:30 p.m. on January 21, 2020.

The Young Man from Atlanta tells the moving story of a couple, Will and Lily Dale Kidder, who are proud to have just moved into their new home in Houston when Will loses his long-term job. They are both still grieving over the death of their son, Bill, in Atlanta — a death they are convinced was accidental. But when Bill's good friend and roommate Randy (the "young man from Atlanta") comes to visit them, they are forced to reconsider their son's life and death.

The Young Man from Atlanta opened off-Broadway on January, 1995, and closed barely a month later on February 26. Subsequent productions were shown in Boston and Houston. When the play opened in January 1997 at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, it starred Rip Torn and Shirley Knight. It then went on to play at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway.

Admission: Regular admission tickets are $27.00 for adults, $25.00 for seniors (65 and over), and $22.00 for active/retired military, students 12 years and over, and handicapped accessible seating. Tickets are $17.00 for the Preview Night showing on Thursday, January 16, and the Terrific Tuesday showing on January 21, 2020. Visit here to purchase tickets online. Where: The Limelight Theatre is located at 11 Old Mission Ave. in the Uptown San Marco district. Free parking is available on the street and in the parking lot behind the theater.
