Petanque: Learn a New Game!
Vacationers and locals can learn to play the game of petanque at this Romanza event.
The St. Augustine Boules de Leon Petanque Club invites visitors and locals to learn more about this European game as part of the 2016 Romanza Festivale of the Arts. They are offering free lessons and demonstrations on the game at St. Augustine's Lighthouse Park from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and again from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Petanque (pronounced "pay-tonk") is a sport played with steel balls on hard ground like hardpan, gravel, or coquina parking lots.The object is to get your balls closest to the target ball. Similar to bocce, lawn bowling, shuffleboard, and horseshoes, the game is played in St. Augustine's sister city of Aviles, Spain, and in over 100 countries all over the world. The game requires hardly any setup and is very easy to learn.
Admission: Free.
When: 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Where: The lessons will take place at Lighthouse Park on Anastasia Island at 201 Red Cox Rd.
