The Limelight Theatre will stage A Shayna Maidel for four weeks this winter, from Friday, January 14, to Sunday, February 6, 2022. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
A play by Barbara Lebow, A Shayna Maidel tells the story of two sisters following World War II, one a survivor of Nazi concentration camps, the other brought up as an American. The sisters meet in 1946 after a separation of almost 20 years.
In the course one evening, old barriers and griefs give way to a renewed sense of hope and mutual dependence — and the conviction that a better future may yet arise from the bitter ashes of the troubled past. The play is a powerful, haunting and deeply affecting portrait of a family conveying the aftermath of the Holocaust through a poignant, imaginatively conceived examination of one divided family's experience.
Directed by Hazel Robinson, cast members include Ron Price as Mordechai; Stephanie Santiago as Lusia; Jen Farrow as Rose; Jenna Abell at Hanna; Cameon Hodges as Duvid and Katie Timone as Mama.
