Solomon Calhoun Community Center

The Solomon Calhoun Center is a 24,000-square foot-community center next to the St. Augustine Little League Park. The facility values community engagement and offers numerous amenities to achieve this.

The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department, Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, Sheriff's Office Weed and Seed Program, West Augustine Athletic Association, and the YMCA Swimming Program all host classes, workshops, and programs at this location.

History of Solomon Calhoun

Solomon Calhoun was a well accomplished educator, mentor, and coach in St. Johns County. He received a bachelor's and master's degree from Florida A&M University, and was the first person to be named Florida A&M's first-team all American football player in 1934.

In addition to teaching and holding a position as a principal, Calhoun was director of Pupil Welfare in St. Johns County. He also owned the Chapin Street Grocery and Washeteria in St. Augustine.

Being an active member in the community was evident as he was actively involved in organizations such as the NAACP, St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Grand United Order of Oddfellows, San Sebastian and Elks Lodge, National Retired Teachers Association, and St. Johns County Mental Health Association.

Admission: The center itself is free. The pool has its own fees. Daily use for seniors/children is $2.00 and adults are $3.00. Multi-use cards that are good for 12 swims for senior/children are $12.00 and adults are $18.00. Annual passes are $112.00.
