Marcus King
A young artist destined for music with a knack for the guitar.
Marcus King, originally from Greenville, South Carolina, comes from a long line of musicians including his multitalented father, Marvin King — best known in the blues scene. At just four years of age, strumming and practicing the guitar became Marcus's favorite pastime. Growing up in a household where music is an encouraged lifestyle, it's easy to see why he fell in love with this type of storytelling. As he broadened his genres, he began listening to various artists including Aretha Franklin, David Ruffin, and Janis Joplin. The young talent gained experience by performing alongside Marvin King & The Blues Revival and was given the opportunity to record on his father's album, Huge in Europe (2018).
The Marcus King Band was established in 2013, and the rest, as they say, is history. With the band introducing a passionate sound of southern rock, it gives them an edge that sets them apart. Their albums Carolina Confessions (2018) and Soul Insight (2014) are great examples of country grit and deep, emotional lyricism.
Marcus' debut solo album titled, El Dorado (2020), received much recognition as it received a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. This has since created a spark of other works such as Young Blood (2022) and his most recent album, Mood Swings (2024).
As he travels through North America and Europe, this honky-tonk rock star will be making some waves at St. Augustine's very own 2024 Sing Out Loud festival. He can be seen sharing the stage with Eric Church, Sierra Ferrell, Noah Kahan, and Norah Jones.
